A New Medical Drama That Could Make History

Verified purchase

Chelsea General is home to some of the top surgeons in the world, thanks in large part to the hospital's notorious Monday morning morbidity and mortality - or "311" - conferences. In these legendary meetings, Primary of Staff Harding Hooten (Alfred Molina) leads a harsh, closed-door review of the complications ... encountered and mistakes made during the course of patient care.

This paragraph up to a higher place is what amazon wrote For their Piolit. Im telling you this and so you don't think i wrote it and stole it. I just thought information technology was perfect. I would like to add to it. What do NYPD Blue, House, ER, and in my opinion "Monday Mornings" have in common? They all revolutionized television receiver. Monday Mornings is the opposite of ER. ER was fast moving, and through the eyes of the ER from all angles and perspectives. The camera piece of work was fast, as in any urban ER you have very fast movng doctors with all kinds of issues coming through the doors. In one scene in ER Neela was stating why she wanted to exist a surgeon and non in the ER. Well Surgery is planned out virtually of fourth dimension, and a program is in place even if it is on the moment surgery. The ER she said you have to call up very fast and not to much time to remember or plan. Well in Monday Mornings, you see all aspects of the surgeon's side of thigs. And these meetings also known as "311", or Mobidity and Mortality meetings...They focus on even the smallest of details that could have gone better. The chief of staff runs these meetings as a way of making the doctors better. He is non a nasty grapheme, and in fact you will grow to love him and this cast. In the spirit of being brusk, its about surgeons and how they deal with life, each other, and most of all "the patients". And Monday Mornings looks deep into all that can go wrong, fifty-fifty when things have gone right. ER was the starting time of its kind with the camera piece of work, the actors spoke of how they had to get it right, and how hard it was to continue upwardly and move effectually all those cameras. This testify is slower. They have done a great chore moving the characters along. I experience invested in them already. The actors are all great and all play their parts perfect in their ain way. They do the surgery and then have the Monday Morning Meetings. Which by the away they take at x o'clock at dark as well. Delight watch from the starting time. If you lot liked any of the shows i mentioned earlier, i think this testify is ground breaking too. I trouble. TNT could at any time take information technology off the air. I fright they might. If they practice, after i more season, i will not watch that station again. this will exist it. They take a hit show and a very unique show. I hope they keep to do it right.

This great series is available merely on this German-made DVD with selectable German and English soundtracks

This DVD collection comprises all x episodes of TNT's cancelled one-year-only medical drama, Monday Mornings. It was non released on DVD in the United states of america; the only home video release was this detail, made in Germany, where Studiocanal acquired the rights and released information technology on DVD on November xx, 2014.
The title Mon Mornings is a mock name for "Grand & M" rounds; that stands for infirmary Morbidity and Mortality weekly reports of deaths and serious failures. In infirmary reality, the reports are very businesslike in a briefing room, merely the Television set drama places them in the hospital auditorium at which the surgeons face all their fellow surgeons and receive both praise for their accomplishments and vicious insults for their mistakes, commonly from the precipitous-tongued and unlovable Dr. Hooten, with cutaways to dramatizations of surgeries, consultations, doctor-to-patient talk about life-threatening weather condition (some with droll gallows humor), all-in-all a well balanced back-and-forth between event and critique.
Information technology was written far over the heads of most medical drama viewers, based as it was on a novel by Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Physician, neurosurgeon and an assistant professor of neurosurgery at Emory Academy School of Medicine and associate chief of the neurosurgery service at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia and CNN'south multiple Emmy Accolade-winning master medical contributor. Most viewers found information technology dull, probably due to vocabularies inadequate to follow the dialog or intolerance of extended narrative lines in which cipher flashes lights or explodes. My wife found it intriguing and one of her favorites - then much so she insisted on buying this German edition and a DVD player capable of playing PAL format, something available in the U.s. only online - we got ours here on Amazon.
There are fans who would similar to have the whole season of Mon Mornings, and this is it, the sole home DVD. However, be prepared to purchase information technology from Germany, dubbed in German language but switchable to the original English version. High german is the default version, so you have to click through a card to select the English original. Be warned all the same, all menu screens are in German without English translations. I can read German, but those who can't can pretty well navigate through the few key terms necessary to view the English version using an online German-English translator and get where yous desire with a little fuss, more a nuisance than a barrier.
Likewise, be prepared to buy a PAL-capable DVD player if you don't take that capability already. Nosotros greatly savour the intelligence of this series and easily take the high-drama of the boob tube adaptation of what we know to be very nuts-and-bolts reports among highly skilled (and usually highly critical) surgeons.

I loved this show when it was on TV, particularly the Asian doctor. When I saw it, I had to accept it to watch over again.

Doesn't happen in real life

Verified purchase

I had loftier hopes for this series. When I heard that it was about M&K (Morbidity & Mortality) conferences, my heart skipped a crush.

I couldn't stand watching that get-go example where a surgeon gets ridiculed for prescribing Tylenol ES to a runner who four months later on turned out to have metastatic bone CA (I repent for the spoiler). In the get-go few minutes, I see more inconsistencies here than in an episode of Grey's Anatomy.

In real life, i) a surgeon (even a completely inadequate one) would've prescribed Motrin or some anti-inflammatory agent (Tylenol treats pain but is not adept for inflammation... I think Dr. Gupta needs to go back to Med School), 2) that adult female would've sought a second opinion if her symptoms didn't go ameliorate, 3) nearly patients with CA nowadays with nonspecific symptoms (aches and pains, etc.) a few times before cancer is suspected and diagnosed (with common things being mutual, it is 1 million times more mutual for that runner to indeed accept some activity-related os pain than cancer). Sure, ten-rays may have led to an before diagnosis just if annihilation, every doctor in the US over-orders tests (not the other way around) so I really don't see this scenario happening except in some surface area in the boondocks.

I'll quit watching before I go a heart attack. If Dr. Gupta'due south book is just equally inconsistent, I pity the poor people who read information technology and thought things in there to be true. If the makers of the show are reading this, I'll gladly be your consultant for free if it means that Hollywood would finally go things right. ER was the closest TV evidence to being accurate. Hoping for more shows like that.

Best Dr. show ever

Verified purchase

One of the best medico shows always made. It's then unlike from the run of the mill ER shows and shows where doctors can perform ridiculous operations without beingness a specialist in the field. This show is much more realistic and focuses on surgeons who non merely do their job but how their deportment affect the patient and family. Something yous never run into on other shows. And the fact that there is comedy in it makes it even improve. The fact that Dr. Park speaks terrible English and is always beingness bugged past the chief to learn proper English language is hysterical. My husband'south favorite line from the bear witness is when Dr. Park said the patient is "dead expressionless. Before he brain dead; now dead dead ".

Non plenty material.

This is a story about mistakes that doctors fabricated -- well, mistakes that are noticed and serious enough to be caught, anyway. At some point during each show, "all" the doctors (???) in the hospital are paged to come up to a theatre-blazon room to face the medico/surgeon who made the error. Apparently this public humiliation (and in some cases, dismissal) is supposed to be helpful to anybody.

I seriously think this is a breach of soo many confidentiality bug and definitely doesn't promote conviction in peer-working relationships. Information technology's just a calling out slam by a pompous guy.

Why did I spotter it past four episodes? Well, read the book and really liked information technology. Season ane started out bang-up -- but it started to fizzle mid way through. There simply isn't enough variety, the situations are irksome after a while. The character actors are limited in their acting ability and the story line is just non developed plenty to plow this into a show I could sentinel much more. At that place just isn't enough cloth to make this show stand out for me -- say like "Firm" does.

AND.... wow, the logo for the show -- is terrible. The upside down noose of a stethoscope foreshadows the bear witness. Ultimately the goal is to build these doctors upwards to be confident competent, trusted professionals. Not hang them in shame for mistakes made. .

Well, it captured my attention. The stories near the medical issues of individual patients were interesting, sometimes riveting. The Morbidity and Bloodshed Conference seemed a little besides Hollywood. Tin't get my arms around Ving Rhames in this story. He just seems out of identify. Assuming the show is trying to achieve some racial balance and wanted an African American in the role, I would accept preferred someone in the Andre Braugher or Laurence Fishburne vein. The show doesn't need a big-proper name star, either. I'm sure there are many black actors who would accept been better suited for the part.
